The South East Melbourne Phoenix have today signed local guard Austin Foxwell as a development player for the Hungry Jack’s NBL26 season.
Foxwell is local to the Heartland, having played much of his junior basketball at the State Basketball Centre, and is the younger brother of the Phoenix’s longest-serving player, Owen.
The 18-year-old made waves recently as part of the NBA Academy Games in the United States and spent time with the Dandenong Rangers in the NBL1 South competition.
Foxwell is currently completing his final year of high school and will be with the squad during holiday periods and after exams are complete.
Phoenix General Manager of Basketball Operations Simon Mitchell said Foxwell would be a great addition to the group.
“Austin is one of the most talented junior players in the country and obviously is connected to the club via his big brother Owen,” Mitchell said.
“We have an opportunity to provide a local player an opportunity to learn from professional athletes and continue to build not just his skill sets, but his work habits. We are excited to play a role in his development on and off the court.”
Foxwell will wear the number #15 with the Phoenix.
