211cm centre Gorjok Gak will miss at least the next two games after sustaining a calf strain against the Brisbane Bullets on Thursday Night and subsequently missing Sunday’s win over the Cairns Taipans.
Johnson will replace Gak for the next pair of games against Melbourne United and Adelaide 36ers, where they retired his No. 21 jersey.
The 35-year-old stands at 212cm and already has a decorated CV in the NBL, named in the All-NBL First-Team three times, a dual Rebounding Leader and the NBL’s most improved player in 2012.
(Johnson will replace Gak for at least the next couple of games.)
Phoenix head coach Mike Kelly thanked Johnson for joining the team and helping at short notice.
“It’s great that we are able to add a person and player of the calibre of Daniel Johnson to our roster who is ready to go and will no doubt contribute from the start,” Kelly said.
“We’re looking forward to having Gorjok back when he’s ready, but having Daniel in the rotation will be really beneficial in the interim.”
Johnson will wear the #21 Jersey for the Phoenix. He will train with the team in the lead up to the Throwdown on Sunday.
