The Phoenix have today signed Donovan 'DJ' Mitchell to the roster for the NBL26 season on a two-year deal, with the second year being a mutual option.
The 6”8 forward will, for the first time, play for a team based in Melbourne – the city where he was born and where his Dad, Mike, featured for the North Melbourne Giants in the early 1990s.
Mitchell most recently played for Manchester Basketball in England’s Super League Basketball competition, and before that spent two years with the Brisbane Bullets.
The 28-year-old holds citizenship with Australia, Ireland and the United States, meaning that he will fill a local roster spot for the Phoenix.
Phoenix General Manager of Basketball Operations Simon Mitchell said DJ Mitchell has the ability to score at the rim and also from deep and would be a great addition to the burgeoning Phoenix roster.
“DJ provides size, athleticism and above-all the ability to score the ball both inside and out, which will be really beneficial to the squad we are building,” Mitchell said.
“We look forward to welcoming DJ to the Heartland and seeing him thrive under Josh King and the coaching staff.”
Mitchell joins Angus Glover, Jordan Hunter, Nathan Sobey, Owen Foxwell, Akech Aliir and Daniel Foster as confirmed signings for the NBL26 season.
