Congratulations to Sarah Dowlan, our newest Volunteer of the Year! Hear from her below about what's so special about being a part of the Heartland Crew!
Q: What made you get into the Phoenix volunteering program?
A: I had friends already involved in the Phoenix family who already knew that I wanted to be involved in game days from volunteering with me across other sports.
Q: What are some things that you’ve done on game day?
A: I started off doing fan engagement on concourse and floor wiping during the games but moved onto Corporate and last season mainly doing CMS Production for on court experiences.
Q: What have been some of the best things about volunteering with the Phoenix?
A: Some of the best things I have done with Phoenix has been volunteering down in Traralgon as the crowd is always excited and grateful for having us down in Regional Victoria. As well as the community that the volunteers create each season with one and other, you make great friends and learn so much.
Q: Is there a moment that stands out for you?
A: A moment that stood out to me was receiving my 50-game jersey during last season as it showed the dedication I have put in over the seasons and showcases what the games means to all of us when we see it in action once those doors open.
Q: You and your partner are in the same team, is it nice to have something to do together each week?
A: It’s always fun to have the same thing to do each week but some games were on different things and that’s good as were bouncing ideas off each other and get to share how our game day experience was.
Q: You’ve recently welcomed a baby into the family, congratulations, but is it true that you considered Phoenix as a name?
A: It is true that we considered Phoenix as his name. As both of us met through the Phoenix and were always volunteering at games / holidays camps.
Q: What would you say to someone thinking about following your footsteps and volunteering with the Phoenix?
A: Say yes, if you get the opportunity to volunteer or even afraid to. Don’t be. We welcome anyone with open arms and you will get to experience so much in a short period of times and meet new people across the games days.
