The Herald Sun match report said it all 'No NBL game in Melbourne has been lit up with an atmosphere quite as electric in season 2021-22.’ Throwdown XV produced what many called the best atmosphere at an NBL game in years.
A close to full house saw the Phoenix get within a bulls roar of victory. With Throwdown XVI around the corner, this is a game you won't want to miss.
(Throwdown XV did not disappoint with a near packed Fire Pit.)
Twitter certainly had their say on the biggest crowd in Melbourne this year:
Huge atmosphere at @SEMelbPhoenix v @MelbUnited. Great family fun! Get to the @NBL!

Kudos to the Birdman who has got time for all the kids (big and small) and skills to go with pic.twitter.com/QeP2VzYVH4
Been a long, long time since we’ve had an atmosphere like this at a basketball game in Melbourne. This is electric.

And while the team didn’t quite get over the line, the atmosphere is one the team won’t soon forget.
Xavier Munford: “"It was the loudest NBL crowd I've played in front of, it was great energy and that's the type of energy that gets you going."
Kyle Adnam: “The atmosphere is always amazing, there is competition on the court and in the stands. It’s a great stage to play basketball on.”
Ryan Broekhoff: “The atmosphere at Throwdowns are finals like. It’s an amazing feeling to play in front out that. The crowd noise and excitement raises the level of play by both teams.”
Dane Pineau: “The throwdown atmosphere is incredible, it’s my favourite game to be a part of. The crowd is so into the game, and it’s the loudest I’ve ever heard the Fire Pit.”

(Throwdown XVI is sure to be a thriller again.)
Throwdown XVI will be played on Thursday April 7. What better way to kick off the school holidays than watching the Phoenix chase revenge on their cross-town rivals in a big Melbourne derby.
