In an absolute nail-biter, the Phoenix toppled league-leaders Tasmania 86-85 in a packed out John Cain Arena.
With almost every fan on their feet, South East Melbourne’s collective breath was held when the JackJumpers had two free-throws with 3.4 seconds on the clock to tie the game.
Converting only one, it’d be the last score of the game with their attempts to foul Mitch Creek to force an extension in vain.
Gary Browne was monumental, making a habit of turning games in the penultimate quarter, finishing with 20 points in a stunning display.

Creek proved instrumental (16 points) but it was Matt Kenyon who earned the plaudits from both coach and teammates, a defensive juggernaut against his old team forcing stop-after-stop and keeping his new side steaming ahead.
“We had a really good week at training going at each other, so it was good to go at someone else on the court.” 🤝

The Phoenix now travel to Adelaide to face the 36ers on Thursday with a respectable 2-3 record in hand. Before returning home for a home game on Saturday against the Brisbane Bullets.
