The Coverforce Heartland Crew is the backbone of South East Melbourne Phoenix. They volunteer their time to make game day the best for Phoenix fans and less stress for front office staff, players and coaches.
Meet Alanna Quigley
Age: "haha - old enough to know better than tell anyone"
How long have you been volunteering with South East Melbourne Phoenix, and why did you join the Heartland Crew?
I have been volunteering with the Phoenix from early in the first season
What is your role/job while volunteering at Phoenix?
I tend to be thrown in wherever required – I usually help with pre-game setup and my main game time role is support for the CMS crew – assisting with the entertainment – organising the dancers, on court activations, supporting the film crew etc – and usually help where I can with set up and pack up for the game.
What is your favourite thing about volunteering with Phoenix?
It is a really great team atmosphere – all hands on deck. And the buzz of being right down in the action during the game is amazing.
What has been your highlight of your time with the Phoenix?
Probably pregame in the first season (pre-covid) and rebounding the ball when the boys were on court warming up.
(Being from the SE Melbourne region, made it an easy choice to follow the Phoenix for Alannah.)
What do you love about the club?
It is a really great family focused club, and growing up in the South East of Melbourne in a small town on the fringe of suburbia, as soon as the Phoenix was announced I knew they were my team.
Are you involved with basketball outside of game days?
Yes, I play with in a local women’s competition and two of my kids play in the local domestic competition - I have been involved with the St Mary’s Sharks as a coach, team manager and as a committee member for several years now. I also played as a junior.
Is a career in basketball something you would like to pursue?
I love the sports industry and hope to be involved in basketball administration
What is your day job or are you studying?
My day job is a website developer/administrator
Who is your favourite Phoenix player?
That’s a hard one – initially Kyle Adnam – I love the way he goes about his game and sets a great example for those kids who aren’t the biggest and strongest - showing them they can still play at the top level.
But who could not love Mitch Creek? I love the way he just controls the game and plays so tough. I also really love watching Ryan Broekhoff – especially when he starts hitting those threes.
